A Birthday Bash

Last year Life’s Kitchen made a new friend in Sherman Leibow. Like many people, Sherman celebrates his birthday every

A Year Older, A Year Wiser

year with a party, but Sherman’s birthday parties aren’t your average gathering . A birthday party for Sherman is disguised as a fundraiser for a local non-profit organization. Last year’s party was a great fundraiser for Life’s Kitchen, and this year looks to be bigger, and better since Sherman is year older, and a year wiser. I’d say that Sherman is turning 40, but that just isn’t so. Sherman is going to tur…I’m not going to actually say. It’s not like we can cut him open and count the rings; in fact it would be easier to ask him yourself. That will be pretty easy for a lot of you because as of right now there are some 300 people that have turned in an RSVP for the event.

It’s a fun way for Sherman to celebrate his birthday; he rents the room, pays the band, charges at the door, and all the net proceeds go to Life’s Kitchen. It’s very philanthropic of Sherman, and we are very grateful that he is kind enough to mark the occasion of his birth by donating to a non-profit. Thank you Sherman!

Here are some key pointers for guests that are coming to the event:
Life’s Kitchen students will be in attendance – It wouldn’t be as much fun to help raise awareness for Life’s Kitchen if we didn’t have our students there to help showcase the food they have spent the afternoon preparing. After all, it might be Sherman’s birthday party, but we are celebrating the success of our students. It just wouldn’t be the same without them.

Music – There will be live entertainment at the event. Two bands will be performing, in fact. For starters you’ll hear the sounds of guitarist Ben Burdick and bassist Jay Multanen to be followed by Audio Moonshine!

Sherman’s Pulled Pork – Among other things, Sherman sells smokers and grills, and it would follow that Sherman likes to use the products he sells. His pulled pork will be making an appearance; having had personal experience, you’ll love the Sherman Leibow Pulled Pork Sandwich!

We are so glad that we are able to be the beneficiary of this event! It doesn’t take much to have a birthday party, but when a party gets into the hands of someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, good things can happen.

Friday won’t just be about a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday, in fact, I would think this has less to do with Sherman’s birthday than it does helping raise awareness for an organization that means a lot to Sherman. Good man, Sherman. Good man.

    Kurt ,

I just saw this article and am very flattered! One clarification that I would like to make is that all GROSS proceeds go to Life’s Kitchen. In other words, no expenses are deducted. I was thrilled by the turnout this year and look forward to next year!
